Winter Must's in Breckenridge

Breckenridge has become a favorite place for tourist because it’s easy to get to, offers great skiing, and has a lot of options around the town. We had skied Breckenridge several times but I hadn’t explored the town until we booked a stay in Dillion. If you aren’t familiar with the area I’ll give you a quick rundown. Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne are the little towns right off the interstate where you can stay and enjoy shopping, restaurants, and Lake Dillon. Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain are all a short 15 minute drive from town. Typically it’s much cheaper to stay in town instead of on the mountain.

Where we stayed

We booked this cute airbnb for the two of us and it was perfect. The views were beautiful and it had just enough space for us to cozy and have a good night’s sleep. Plus, it was really affordable during the winter months which is hard to come across.

I would recommend staying downtown Breckenridge if you have the opportunity. It’s a cute mountain town feel with ample of amenities to walk to so everyone can be on their own schedule.

Restaurants I recommend

RELISH

You know you’re at the right place from the time you walk in the door. Owned by Breckenridge locals, the cozy atmosphere lined with windows offers a great place for apres! Happy hour runs daily from 4:00 - 6:00 pm and the menu was worth the savings. You can tell everything is fresh as they source as much local food as possible. We enjoyed all of our dishes! We sat by the window which runs along S Main Street in the heart of Breckenridge. You could see the lights twinkling and snow falling!

AURUM

Reservation recommended! This is a place that was highly recommended to us and we got one of the last reservations available. Think modern farmhouse vibes.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Breckenridge has ample free parking with a gondola to take you to the base of the mountain. If you don’t mind paying, I suggest parking at Peak 7 parking lot. That’s where we’ve always parked and you get on the mountain much faster.

As an intermediate skier, I think Breckenridge has a lot of great blue and green runs. However, you’ll have to work your way across the mountain to utilize all that it has to offer.

Other Winter Activities

ICE CASTLES IN DILLON

I’ve had this on my list of things to do in the mountains since we moved to Denver. I was thrilled to go to the Ice Castles in Dillon! We got there before they opened hoping to beat the crowds but that didn’t make a difference. The line was about 50 people long. After waiting for some time we decided it was too long of a wait for us. However they were really cool to see from the outside. I’d recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time as that looked to be the big hold up.
